The Earthen Institute

The name “earthen” is drawn from both Genesis 2:7 (“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground…”) and 2 Corinthians 4:7 (“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels…”).  Here, and throughout Scripture, we see a continued emphasis on the creaturely and earthed nature of human existence.  Unfortunately, these inherent human qualities are often pushed aside or overlooked by contemporary Christians seeking to live faithfully with the unique challenges of the modern world.  We believe this to be a consequential mistake.

The work of the Earthen Institute is to help understand the world we live in, understand more clearly that the Bible, as God’s revelation to us truly addresses life, and then, what this means for the direction of our lives.  We believe that living faithfully as Christians calls us to live thoughtfully and deliberately in every area of life, including our careers, our studies and our professions.  The Earthen Institute offers opportunity to discover purpose and calling in life through our shared human experience and knowledge, contact with the natural world, and understanding of Biblical truth.
